We are thrilled to be bringing you the initial beta release of SREncrypt, the future of IM encryption!

SREncrypt encrypts your conversation from end to end. Using standards-based encryption methodologies, we encrypt the data on the desktop even before it's sent out. This keeps your data safe so you can be sure it will arrive viewable only by its intended recipient.

As a plug-in for the Pidgin Instant Messaging client, SREncrypt currently supports IM protocols from...

    • Google (via Jabber/XMPP)
    • Yahoo
    • MSN
    • AOL

Installation is a simple, three-step process:

I. Register for an account. To register, simply enter a username, valid email, and password. This information will be used by the installer to retrieve your privacy certificates. Each of the IM accounts you want to encrypt requires it's own certificate. During the registration process, the top portion of options -- Name, City, State, and Country -- will be shared across all your Pidgin accounts. The bottom section asks for the "username@domain" for each, individual IM account you want to secure. The domain drop down list contains known, working domains. If you would like to use a different domain or service, please email us at support@stonesrose.com and we will happily verify the domain and set up a certificate for you. Google Apps domains and Jabber/xmpp services will work.

II. Now that you've registered, creating the required certificates in the process, you'll be offered the download link. Linux users will need to email us at support@stonesrose.com and confirm your distribution. Follow the download link and run the installer. Please note, the usual lgpl license will apply. Verify the installation directory and click Next. Here you will be prompted for the Username and Password you created during registration. Once you click Install the plugin will be installed in the Pidgin plugin directory. You should see a box pop up -- this is the installer downloading your private certificates. Once this is done, close the installer.

III. To enable the plugin in Pidgin, launch Pidgin. From the menu's select Tools -> Plugins. Scroll down the plugins window until you see "srencrypt". Click the check box to enable the plugin. Close the plugin window, and you will see "encryption enabled" across the top of your buddy list window.

Should you encounter any problems at all during the installation process, we encourage you to email us at support@stonesrose.com, or better yet, open a support ticket! Each trackable issue enables us to bring you a better product with every update!

We develop methodologies to keep your communications safe, secure, and validated. Right now, we're tackling one of the biggest security holes -- Instant Messaging.

Did you know connections through an IM service might be encrypted using SSL and still be completely visible! Worse yet, using information gathered through these means might be completely legal. This leads most companies to block the use of Instant Messaging altogether in an effort to protect their data.

SREncrypt -- our latest project -- will encrypt your conversation from end to end. Using standards-based encryption methodologies, we encrypt the data on the desktop even before it's sent out. This keeps your data safe -- whether it's the next meeting time, the results of the quarterly report, or a users password -- you can be sure it will arrive viewable only by its intended recipient.
